Nyamira: Pastor detained after being found defiling girl inside church

A pastor in Nyamira County has been taken into police custody after being accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl at a church in Ikonge.

According to a local administrator, the incident occurred on the evening of April 20, when a concerned member of the public alerted local authorities after reportedly seeing the pastor, aged 42, locking himself inside the church with a minor.

Officers arrived at the church in Nyamira North Sub-county, to find the premises locked from the inside and lights turned off. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact the pastor, including ringing his phone, which was switched off, the officers reached out to his wife for assistance.

"Upon arriving and spotting a set of keys inside the church through a window, the pastor’s wife was visibly shaken. A member of the public used a staff to retrieve the keys by pulling a nearby table. The Pastor then emerged and pleaded for forgiveness before unlocking the doors," stated part of the report.

Once inside, officers found a pair of shoes believed to belong to a young girl. A search of a makeshift kitchen in one corner of the church led to the shocking discovery of a teenage girl hidden inside a 310-litre drum.
The girl, a Grade 8 pupil, was reportedly under the care of the church.

According to witnesses, the girl appeared distressed and her clothing suggested possible abuse.
The matter was immediately reported to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ikonge Police Patrol Base.
Police responded promptly and took both the pastor and the girl to the station for further investigation.

The incident  was  recorded under OB number 04/20/04/2025 at Ikonge Police Patrol.
Police have launched investigations, and the suspect is expected to face charges.

Residents have condemned the incident and called for swift justice.
