Mom of Bomet groom faults Nelly over the cancelled wedding

Amos Rono, Mrs. Sarah Nyigei and Nelly Chepkoes Sarah Nyigei, the mother of the groom in the failed Bomet wedding has spoken.

While talking to the Standard about what happened, Ms. Sarah who is the mother of Amos Rono pointed fingers at the bride, Ms. Nelly Chepkoech about the suspension of the wedding claiming that the 23-year-old lady asked for more time.

The mother said Ms. Chepkoech changed her mind about the wedding the day before claiming that she was still too young to get married.

“Harusi haikufanyika kwa msichana alisema apatiwe nafasi yeye bado ni mdogo hajafikiria kuwa bibi. Eti hakuwa tayari." (The wedding did not take place for the girl. She said she should be given a chance. She is still young and has not thought of becoming a bride. I guess she wasn't ready)

She said following Mrs. Chepkoech's move to change her position, the family has decided to release her and will not accept her anymore.

“Sitakubali tena yeye akuje. Sitakubali tena akuje kwetu kwa vile amesema bado ni mdogo hajakuwa mzima kukuwa bibi.” (I will not accept her again. I will not allow her to come to us again as she has said that she is still young and not yet mature enough to be a wife)

Amos' mother noted that before the recent development, the family was ready to welcome Nelly Chepkoech and adopt her as one of their own.

She also confirmed that they had already paid the dowry for the 23-year-old girl and waited a long time for the two to get married.

She said that although it came late, the decision was the best to avoid a false and violent marriage. "I can only imagine how disruptive and chaotic their marriage would have been if she pretended to go ahead with the wedding," she said.

Despite the grief that befell their family following the development, Ms Nyigei made it clear that they will not hold a grudge against the Chepkoech family.
