Misconception about childlessness that singer Alice Kimanzi held for a decade

Gospel singer Alice Mumbi Kimanzi has opened up about her heartbreaking journey to motherhood. She recently shared her story with fellow singer Kambua, discussing her experiences with her miracle baby.
Alice described how holidays were particularly tough for her, not because of others, but due to the unmet expectations she felt. "It was like failing an exam," she said.
"There's a family member who asked for my period tracker, a nurse who felt she could help. But it became overwhelming."
After consulting a doctor, Alice was diagnosed with PCOS, but the treatment failed. They were advised to consider adoption. "It was said that carrying a child might be impossible, and we were encouraged to adopt since we weren’t even 30 yet."
Despite the discouragement, Alice and her husband continued to pray. Years passed, and Alice faced intense internal pressure.
"It felt like something was being taken from me, a joy I had longed for. I would ask God, ‘You gave me this desire for a child, so why aren't you doing something about it?’"
Fortunately, her struggles did not affect her marriage. "No, we were on the same page. My husband understood exactly how I felt."
In year six, Alice faced a significant faith challenge. "The devil whispered a lie to me, and I believed it for a long time—that God didn’t understand. I entertained the thought, which made my faith waver significantly."
Her relationship with God deteriorated, and by year eight, she began declining invitations to lead worship. "I felt trapped and didn’t know how to navigate life without God."
Eventually, Alice accepted an invitation to church, and at that moment, her perspective on God’s love shifted. "That lie disappeared. It felt like something changed that year."
Alice continued to face challenges with childlessness, but at the beginning of year ten, she consulted a doctor who predicted she would conceive within a month.
When she missed her period and took a pregnancy test, she was physically shaking with fear and excitement. The test was positive. Today, Alice and her husband are blessed with a son who is now four years old.
