With just 198 days remaining before the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Ministry Of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports says the Summer Games are top on its agenda this year.
While marking the countdown of 200 days to the Paris Games, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba revealed that preparing Team Kenya for the competitions is significantly at the peak of his to-do list in this calendar year.
“We are delighted as a Ministry Of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports to declare that in this year, the Olympics are the most significant and the top priority for the ministry and the government,” Ababu revealed.
The Minister further expressed satisfaction on the steps taken by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) in ensuring that all the preparations are in top gear thus far for the Paris frolic, which is set for Friday July 26 to Sunday August 11, 2024.
“We are happy that the National Olympic Committee of Kenya is on track in terms of preparations and we will also be keeping track of the happening, ticking the boxes on our priority list moving forward up to the opening ceremony in Paris.
“We are providing solid and strong support to the athletes that are seeking to qualify, we are ready to support Team Kenya and all the athletes can be confident that the government is in full support of them and we are all looking forward to cheering them on as they conquer the world once again.”
Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum echoed Ababu’s sentiments promising great support from qualification up to the games.
Already, Kenya Sevens rugby team Shujaa has secured a slot for the Games. African Volleyball queens Malkia strikers also got back-to-back qualification after thumping Egypt 3-0 in Cameroon last August. 40 athletes have as well grabbed tickets to compete in Paris this year.
