A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders has lashed out at critics questioning the rollout of the Social Health Insurance Authority (SHA).
Speaking after attending a church function at St. Paul II Chepterwai Catholic Church, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet defended the government’s efforts to ensure Kenyans register for the new health scheme.
The leaders emphasized the transformative agenda of SHA, aimed at providing affordable and quality healthcare services without financial hardship.
“We urge Kenyans to ignore the misinformation being peddled by some leaders and register in large numbers to benefit from this initiative,” Ichung’wa stated.
Speaking at a separate event in Khwisero, Kakamega County, Ichung’wa called on politicians to advocate for SHA, urging them to educate the public on its benefits.
He accused critics of being sympathizers of past corruption at KEMSA, where public funds were allegedly embezzled through procurement scandals.
Ichung’wa also defended recent visits by church leaders to State House, dismissing social media criticism.
“Anyone can visit the House on the Hill with the blessings of President William Ruto,” he said.
Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka and Matungu MP Peter Nabulindo echoed similar sentiments, urging Kenyans to register for SHA and dismissing opposition to the program as politically motivated.
“This is a critical step towards ensuring all Kenyans have access to healthcare without financial strain,” they affirmed.
