Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has defended her relationship with popular Mugithi Singer Samuel Muchoki, alias Samidoh, saying there is nothing illegal in their affair.
Nyamu who was speaking in an interview with NTV on Monday said her relationship with Samidoh is a case of polygamy which is legal in Kenya.
"Unajua sheria ya Kenya vizuri? Enda uangalie sheria ya polygamy ambayo ilipitishwa na hii bunge. Sijavunja sheria yote kuwa kwa situation ambayo niko," she said.
Nyamu further dismissed claims that her lifestyle could erode the moral values of her followers saying she is being real with herself.
Kenya's Parliament passed a bill allowing men to marry multiple wives in 2014.
Polygamy is common among traditional communities in Kenya, as well as among the country's Muslim community.
The proposed 2014 polygamy bill had initially given a wife the right to veto the husband's choice, but male members of parliament overcame party divisions to push through a bid that dropped the clause.
Nyamu and Samidoh have been at the centre of the limelight over their relationship which forced the singer's first wife Edday to leave the country for the US.
Samidoh and Edday have two children together.
Edday Nderitu while in the US appeared to confirm that her marriage with Samidoh ended.
"I have managed to sustain my kids' needs so far with no help and I am not regretting any bit. I don't need any drama, I need peace," Edday shared.
"I left the husband for whoever needed him more," the mother of three added.
