Two Grade Three pupils of Lieta Kabunde Primary School in Homa-Bay County drowned while swimming in River Obambo after they were sent home by the school administration to collect pending fees.
The children identified as Jim Paul Juma, 9, and Peter Ochieng, 10, are said to have been sent home to collect the remaining balance of Ksh.800 after they had paid only Ksh.200 each as the school needed Ksh.1000 from each pupil.
It was reported that they were found dead in the river around Thursday noon.
Hilda Juma, says that his son Juma left home at 6am going to school and three hours later he was sent back home only to be later found dead in the river.
Ochieng's father Samson Nyong’o attributes the death of his son to illegal payments which the school imposes on the parents, demanding explanations from the school administration and education officials over the death oftwo pupils
Education officials who visited the school said they have already launched investigations into the incident.
