Tanzanian gospel artiste Christina Shusho took centre stage at the New Year’s Eve concert at Garden City Mall, Nairobi.
Shusho was the main headliner of the “Shusha Nyavu” concert put together by comedian Churchill and some of his team.
Yet, it wasn’t solely her commanding voice that captured the audience’s gaze; her wardrobe selections also became a focal point of interest.
Christina Shusho kicked off the evening in a sleek black satin dress adorned with intricate gold embroidery, complemented by stylish brown high heels.
For her second attire, she wore a lengthy green dera-style dress, elegantly fastened on her shoulder with the Kenyan flag.
She donned a bright yellow caftan dress for her third ensemble and her make-up was also well done.
However, her first dress code has ignited mixed reactions among Kenyans, sparking a debate on whether such attire aligns with her status as a gospel musician.
Online discussions have been buzzing with opinions, with some fans praising her for the stunning outfit, while others expressed reservations.
User Planter44 commented, “Kila kitu sawa but io Dress zii. Next time let’s make it all about God,” emphasizing a desire for a more modest choice.
Cate cate? questioned the scrutiny, asking, “wakenya nini exactly tunatakanga?????,” while Nzasajacqueline?????? suggested an alternative, stating, “aiii I usually love Christina Shusho dressing but this one is a big no dera would have been better.”
Despite the fashion critique, some fans like Paula Sarah showed unwavering support, stating, “hii dress nka alibuy Kenya coz she has never failed us when it comes to dressings.”

Gates to the highly anticipated 2023 concert opened at around 4:00 PM, ushering in performances from emerging talents Kinoti and Ethan Muziki.

Comedians Tom Daktari, Nicki Bigfish, Terrence Creative, Arnold Xaviour, Omwami comedian, Adhis Jojo, Milly Chebby among others added humour to the event, making it a night filled with diverse entertainment.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and his wife were also in attendance, joining the crowd in ushering in the new year with enthusiasm.
Despite some negative discussions about Shusho’s dress, the concert was deemed a resounding success, drawing a substantial crowd of Christina Shusho’s fans eager to witness her epic performance.
The Tanzanian songstress did not disappoint, delivering a two-hour live performance that left the audience in awe and concluding the night in a stylish manner that shut down the event.
Before she left the stage, she expressed her love for Kenyans saying it is her second home.
Shusho who also performed one of her songs with Mercy Masika described her as her best Kenyan musician.
