Football latest: Arsenal move top & Villa into top four as Man United Climb to 6th

Premier League action resumed this weekend after a one-week hiatus occasioned by the international break.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Aston Villa were among the biggest gainers from the latest round of fixtures, with City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea all dropping points.

The Gunners stunned Brentford 1-0 on Saturday to go top of the standings with 30 points after 13 games.

Kai Havertz was responsible for the all-important goal scored in the 89th minute of the match.

According to BBC, the north Londoners went top at the expense of Man City and Liverpool, who settled for a 1-1 draw during their meeting at the Etihad Stadium.

The draw leaves City sitting second with 29 points, a point ahead of third-placed Liverpool.

Aston Villa's 2-1 epic win over Tottenham saw them move to fourth in the standings with 28 points, with Spurs down in fifth with 26 points.

Elsewhere, Man United demolished Everton 3-0 on Sunday to climb to sixth with 24 points, four off the top four.

Chelsea hammered as Burnley's woes deepen

Meanwhile, Chelsea were hammered 4-1 during their trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, with the heavy defeat leaving them sitting 10th with 16 points.

Sky Sports reports that the match saw Reece James sent off, with Raheem Sterling's stunning free-kick earning the Blues a consolation.

Burnley, Everton, and Sheffield United are the three teams in the relegation zone, with the Toffees finding themselves in the dogfight after they were slapped with a 10-point deduction.

On their part, Burnley were edged 2-1 by West Ham United at home, while the Blades lost 3-1 to Bournemouth.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial found the back of the net for United, with the former’s goal grabbing all the headlines for its sheer brilliance.

Garnacho stunned the Everton crowd with a sensational bicycle kick in the third minute, per Sports Brief.

His acrobatic effort off Diogo Dalot’s cross headed straight into the top corner of Jordan Pickford’s goal, leading to mass celebrations among United supporters.
