Fiest Lady Rachel Ruto condemns violence against women after the discovery of mutilated bodies in Mukuru kwa Njenga

First Lady Rachel Ruto has broken her silence on the discovery of badly mutilated bodies at an abandoned quarry in Kware area, Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Embakasi South, Nairobi.

Taking to her official social media accounts on the night of Saturday, July 13, 2024, Rachel said the incident was deeply disturbing and heartbreaking, noting that no one deserves to undergo such cruelty.

“The discovery of the mutilated bodies of young women dumped in Kware, Nairobi, is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. Each of these women was someone’s child, sister or friend and no one should undergo such cruelty.

She further called for the end of violence against women in the country, as she condoled with the families of the victims.

Mama Rachel went ahead to point out that no parent deserves to bury their children under such circumstances.

“Violence against women must end in our country. Our condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victims. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially under such circumstances,” the First Lady said in a statement shared via her official X account.

Mama Rachel Ruto’s remarks come hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide detectives conducted a search for more bodies on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

This was the second day of the bodies retrieval, after nine bodies were retrieved on Friday, July 12, 2024, all of them being female.

On the second day, five sacks with suspected human bodies were retrieved.

In a statement issued shortly after the bodies retrieved on Saturday were transferred to City Mortuary, the DCI said that out of the five sacks that were retrieved, three bags contained female body parts.

The first bag of the three had two legs from the knee downwards, the second bag contained two body parts, one from the neck to the waist and another from the head to the waist, and the third bag contained a lower limb from the thigh to the knee.

The DCI says that the other two bags of the five that were retrieved did not have human body parts.

The crime busters say one contained a dog carcass while the other was full of garbage.

“Further to the statement made yesterday July 12, 2024, the DCI would like to inform the public that five more nylon bags were retrieved from the quarry today.

“Three bags contained female body parts as follows: the first bag had two legs from the knee downwards, the second bag contained two body parts, one from the neck to the waist and another from the head to the waist, and the third bag contained a lower limb from the thigh to the knee. For the other two bags, one contained a dog carcass while the other was full of garbage,” the DCI said.

The DCI has assured the public of a thorough investigation, which the anti-crime agency says will cover a wide range of areas including possible cultism activities.

President William Ruto has vowed that his government will take action against those involved in the killings of the people whose bodies are being retrieved.

Addressing the public at Our Lady of Glory Kaptagat Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Saturday, July 13, 2024, the Head of State said he had ordered the authorities concerned to undertake a deep investigation and bring to book those involved.
