Ezikiel Otuoma’s Final Resting Place Explained

Nabii Gogo, a teacher and spiritualist, has offered insights into why the late Kenyan footballer Ezekiel Otuoma was laid to rest at his grandmother's compound.
Otuoma, who passed away in December 2024 after a four-year battle with Motor Neuron Disease, was buried on Saturday, January 13, 2025.
This perspective aligns with cultural practices in some Kenyan communities, where the burial location often follows family history and traditions regarding land ownership.
Nabii Gogo addressed the decision to bury Ezekiel Otuoma at his grandmother’s compound, affirming there was nothing wrong with it, given he was her grandson.
"If Otuoma's father was buried at his mother’s compound, there’s no way Otuoma would have been buried at his own mother’s home. He didn’t have his own home; he built within ‘their’ family compound. The family may also have designated a specific part of the land as a burial site," he explained.
This insight highlights how cultural norms influence burial decisions in Kenyan communities.
Ezekiel Otuoma’s passing was confirmed in an emotional tribute by his widow, Rachel Otuoma, who shared her heartbreak and deep love for her late husband.
"To my Husband, you left a hole in my heart that no one else can fill 💔. The emptiness in my arms reminds me of the love we shared. Your love was a gift, and I’ll cherish it always. However, it was so soon, and it broke my heart. You left on my birthday, and it will never be the same again 💔. You never said you were leaving, never showed a sign, you never said goodbye 😭. In life, I loved you dearly; in death, I love you still. In my heart, you hold a place that only you can fill. It broke my heart to lose you, but you didn’t go alone—a part of me went with you 😭. TILL WE MEET AGAIN."
On January 10, 2025, family and friends gathered at CCA Church Johera in Nairobi to honor the late footballer during a memorial service.
Rachel was visibly emotional as she viewed her husband’s body for the last time. Otuoma was laid to rest at their family home in Gem Ramula, Siaya County.
The beloved footballer tragically passed away on December 21, 2024, following a four-year battle with Motor Neuron Disease.
