The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on October 30, 2024 secured a court order to seize assets from Urbanus Wambua Musyoka, a former Machakos County Executive Committee (CEC) member.
The court found that these assets, valued at Ksh91,202,892, were acquired through corrupt activities during his time in office from January 2014 to July 2021.
Musyoka’s seized assets include a residential building worth Ksh80,251,815 and Ksh10,951,077 in cash from his accounts at Co-operative Bank and Equity Bank.
The ruling was made by Justice P.J. Otieno, marking a significant step in EACC’s efforts to combat corruption.
This case is part of a larger investigation into Musyoka’s wealth, which totals over Ksh540 million. EACC took legal action after Musyoka failed to explain the vast difference between his assets and his legitimate income sources.
Investigations revealed that he benefited from fraudulent tenders awarded to companies owned by his family and close friends.
These companies, including Wafih International Limited and Wisdom Holdings Limited, received a total of Ksh457,047,214.80 from the Machakos County Government.
Musyoka was the sole signatory on the bank accounts of these companies, making him the primary beneficiary of the funds.
Alarmingly, these companies did not pay taxes to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), accumulating Ksh181,722,145 in unpaid taxes.
In November 2023, Musyoka and others were arrested and charged with several offenses, including conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.
They denied all charges, and the case is ongoing at the Machakos Anti-Corruption Court.
