President William Ruto on Monday, June 17, jetted into the country from Switzerland using the national carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ).

The President earlier travelled to Italy and later Switzerland using unidentified means before returning to Kenya.

His choice to fly with KQ was in line with the President’s call for austerity measures within the government to reduce the national debt.

In May, the Head of State had been castigated for using a private jet for his 5-day visit to the United States (US), which was reportedly valued at Ksh71 million.

The Head of State, however, later explained to the nation that he had opted to use the jet instead of the national carrier because it was a gift from friends of Kenya.

The President was received in the country by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

The CS was also accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.

Kenya Airways Authority (KAA) Chairman Caleb Kositany was also present to welcome President William Ruto.

Amidst rumours of a split with his boss, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was conspicuously missing from the team receiving President Ruto from his working trip.

The DP has been at loggerheads with people working closely with the President accusing them of trying to boss him around.

"There are some people who are friends with the President who want to be my boss. Just because you are the President's friend you want to become my boss?" the DP had complained.

Noteworthy, DP Rigathi Gachagua was among the entourage that saw President Ruto off as he departed for the G7 summit in Italy on Thursday, June 13.
