DCI launch investigations into alleged scholarship fraud to Finland

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has commenced investigations into allegations of fraud involving a scholarship program to Finland, spearheaded by the Uasin Gishu County government.

This follows numerous complains by members of the public from Uasin Gishu County, who claimed to have been defrauded millions of shillings in a scholarship program to the Scandinavian country, that failed to materialize.

Detectives from DCI Headquarters are expected in Uasin Gishu County between July 18-21, for a comprehensive probe.

This comes just days after Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii shifted the blame on his counterpart senator Jackson Mandago who launched the programme during his time as governor.

The matter came to light after parents of the students who were awarded the scholarships complained that their children were threatened to be deported back to the country.

Reports indicate that Kshs 33 million was allegedly missing in a bank account registered under the Uasin Gishu Overseas Education Trust Scholarship menat to cater for Visa Processing fees, Tuition fees accomodation among other others.

The DCI urged all victims to presen themselves at the DCI headquarters in Eldoret on 18 July to recorde ther statements and other investigative procedures.

"The victims are requested to bring all the relevant documents in their possession, related to the matter", read the DCI statement.
