DCI detectives raid Kawira Mwangaza's home in Milimani estate

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday stormed and pitched tent at the home of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza in Milimani estate, cordoning it off for the better part of the day.

Sources revealed that the operation was in line with a probe into the murder the county’s vocal blogger Daniel Muthiani, alias Sniper.

Sniper’s killing has been condemned by a host of the country’s top leaders, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki who vowed stern action against individuals involved.

The detectives are allegedly treating Governor Mwangaza’s residence as a possible area of interest into the probe, which has garnered much public attention.

This also comes as the DCI is seeking 21 days to hold five suspects arrested in connection with the murder.

In documents submitted in court, the DCI said the period will enable them to conclude investigations, noting that more suspects are yet to be arrested.

The five suspects presently in custody are; Kenneth Mutua Gatiri alias Gasigi, Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi alias Pope, Frankline Kimathi alias Dudu Ras, Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.

According to investigators, the deceased was lured by the five suspects through a phone call alleging that Governor Mwangaza wanted to meet him.

Sniper disappeared on December 2 and his body was discovered on December 16, 2023.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Tharaka Nithi, Meru County, revealed that he died of strangulation.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the examination, said Sniper had marks on his neck and exhibited signs of a person who had lacked oxygen.

He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries on his head which suggested that he was strangled before being thrown into a river.
