Celine Dion "loses ability to control her muscles"

Canadian singer Celine Dion has lost the ability to control her muscles as she continues to battle Stiff-Person Syndrome, a neurological disorder that affects the nervous system and causes spasms.

This is according to her sister Claudette Dion, who revealed to French news outlet 7 Jours, that the 55-year-old Grammy winner could no longer control certain body movements.

"She doesn't have control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she's always been disciplined. She's always worked hard. Our mother always told her, 'you’re going to do it well, you're going to do it properly,’” she told the news outlet.

Claudette also noted that it is Celine’s dream to return to the stage, however, it remains uncertain if she will be able to perform again.

"It's true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don't know,” she added.

It is not the first time that the singer’s health status has made headlines since she revealed earlier in May, 2023 that she has a serious condition preventing her from taking the stage.

Dion penned a message to her fans on her website stating: “With a sense of tremendous disappointment, Celine Dion’s Courage World Tour today announced the cancellation of all remaining dates currently on sale for 2023 and 2024. As the world has emerged from the pandemic, Celine has continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at this time is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour."

Before that, Dion had revealed in a video on Instagram in December 2022, that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome and was being treated for the disorder.

"I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through…It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February,” she said.

Stiff Person Syndrome is a condition that causes muscle rigidity and increased sensitivity to sound, touch and emotional stimuli that can trigger muscle spasms.
