Police in Mombasa are holding three suspects believed to have been part of a group of more than 20 individuals who planned and sodomized a 25-year-old blogger.
According to the county criminal investigation officer James Lelia, one of the suspects is a male accused of committing the actual sexual assault, while the other two are females believed to have planned the crime.
Amateur video taken at a restaurant shows one of the female suspects getting arrested by plain-clothed police detectives who have been trailing the suspects for a while.
According to Lelia, the suspects are being held at a police station for interrogation and will be arraigned on Monday to answer to charges for the crime that happened in Bamburi.
As investigations into the matter continue, police officers are searching for more suspects involved in the act, and those already in custody will aid in bringing them to book.
Human rights groups in Mombasa have condemned the act and asked the police to expedite investigations into the matter.
