Zuchu Breaks Silence With First Release Since Tanzania’s Political Turmoil

Tanzanian singer Zuchu has released her first single since the deadly polls on October 29, 2025.

The love song, titled “Reason,” came out on Saturday, November 22, 2025, and has already garnered over 46,000 views on YouTube. Its release comes amid a wave of violent post-election protests in the country.

Zuchu is among several Tanzanian musicians facing heavy backlash for openly supporting President Suluhu Hassan during the election period.

Earlier this month, Zuchu took to Instagram to share a heartfelt prayer for her country.

“Ewe Mola, ihifadhi nchi yetu Tanzania. Ijalie Amani, umoja na upendo,” she wrote on her Instagram.

Loosely translated to;

“Oh Lord, protect our country, Tanzania. Grant it peace, unity, and love.”

Her message came shortly after President Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed the nation, appealing to Tanzanians involved in protests to choose dialogue over violence.

“We must choose what benefits us all, because the safety of our entire nation is protected by each one of us, with all our might and at any cost.”

President Samia emphasised that true strength is measured not through confrontation but through conversation and cooperation. Speaking both as a leader and a mother, she urged citizens to prioritise peace over chaos and warned that unrest only leads to pain, loss, and division.

The protests erupted on October 29, 2025, the day of Tanzania’s general election. President Samia was declared the winner with over 97% of the vote, a result that sidelined major opposition parties and sparked accusations of repression.

Demonstrators in Dar es Salaam and other cities faced tear gas and gunfire from security forces. The unrest was further complicated by a nationwide internet blackout, making it difficult for independent verification.

Reports indicate that dozens have been charged with treason, while rights groups say hundreds, possibly over a thousand, may have been killed during the protests. The government has launched inquiries into the violence and deaths, promising accountability and urging calm.
