Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders have joined calls for the total withdrawal of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Led by Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition downplayed the removal of some sections of the Finance Bill insisting that several clauses are illegal to the core.  

The opposition has maintained that its MPs must stay put in parliament to reject the bill currently before the House.

“I have talked to MPs, including Antony Oluoch and Mawathe and told them not to come here; they should stay in Parliament and ensure Finance Bill 2024 does not sail through,” Kalonzo said. 

“Yesterday they tried to dupe Kenyans by saying the tax on bread was removed…don’t be cheated. I want to tell them that the same bread, ndio itawapeleka nyumbani.”

Kalonzo who was flanked by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugine Wamalwa in their visit to demolition victims in Mathare also condemned police brutality in handling anti-Finance Bill protestors adding the opposition will take legal action at Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei.

“LSK wants to sue Koome and the senior police officer affiliated with Ruto called Bungei for inflicting harm to innocent youths who were demonstrating against their rights," he said.

Azimio has backed the protests saying the state should heed the plea of Kenyans.

At the same time, Kalonzo has weighed in on the police deployment to Haiti noting that the move is only meant to serve the interest at the expense of Kenya.

Kalonzo argues that the police mission to Haiti is illegal and should not be undertaken.

“This country is a democracy, you (Ruto) can’t be lying to European leaders while attending international events like the G7 that you are democratic while back home you are torturing protestors and inflicting suffering on the people. You will be seen for who you are, we can't allow such things," Kalonzo added.

"Paying Koome and Bungei is taking our sons to be killed in Haiti...there is a plan to take our children to Haiti, we have to discuss and Kenyans have to agree on the matter but not taking our people abroad and they are returned in body bags…if that happens, we shall hold them accountable."
