Kenyan singer Bahati says his children have been left confused and unsettled after a woman appeared online claiming to be his biological mother.
In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday night, December 2, 2025, Mama hitmaker revealed that the news hit his family hard, forcing him to cut short what he was doing and rush back to Nairobi to be with his children.
He said the sudden claim has raised many questions at home, especially because his children have grown up knowing the story he has always believed about his past.
“Imebidi nirudi Nairobi… My kids are even more confused… Could my mother be alive?” Bahati wrote.
The confusion began after a viral TikTok video surfaced showing a woman saying she is Bahati’s mother and asking for forgiveness.

Shortly after watching the clip, he expressed shock, explaining that he personally attended his mother’s burial more than twenty-five years ago. He said this made Bahati revisit a painful part of his childhood, something he never imagined he would question.
“But my mum died over twenty-five years ago, I personally attended the burial and witnessed her grave. This woman has confused me more. So what should I do?” Bahati wrote.
In the viral video, the woman narrated her side of the story, saying she took Bahati to a children’s home because she did not have the means to raise him. She said she feared losing him due to her challenges and believed he would have a better life under care.
“Bahati, mimi ni mama yako, nakuja mbele yako kukuomba msamaha, although uliambiwa mama yako alikufa. Mimi nilikuzaa na nikakupeleka children’s home. Sikuwa na uwezo, ndo maana nikakupeleka children’s home,” she said in the emotional clip.
She added that she has carried the secret for years and now hopes to meet him. She said she is ready to take a DNA test to prove her claims.
Bahati later addressed the public again, saying the matter is serious and not a stunt.
The artiste insisted that this was not his usual antics to chase clout and that it had shaken him deeply. He explained that even though he has been known for pulling stunts in the past, this situation felt different.
According to him, his brother told him the woman had been trying to reach their family for years, which made the matter even more unsettling.
“Kenyans najua mimi ni king wa kiki, nimewapiganga vipindi miaka mingi, I confess, lakini ya huyu sihusiki. My big brother called me today, saying the woman amekuwa akikutafuta for five years adi alipiga kwa simu yake. Hizo comment zenu that anafanana watoto wangu, guys, this is a serious issue, it might look like a joke, but it is very emotional,” he said.
He added that the possibility of his mother being alive would completely change his life. Bahati said he is still processing the emotional shock while trying to guide his children through the confusion brought by the unexpected revelation.
“What if my mother is alive? I think that would change my life forever, so I won’t brush it off. Maybe mimi hukuwa Mluyha na si Mkamba. I attended my mother’s funeral, I witnessed her being buried. I don’t know, should I pursue this, get DNA? I don’t even have the woman’s contact,” he said.
