Martha Karua vows to take action against president Ruto over the violation of human rights during protests

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua on Thursday vowed to take action against President William Ruto over the human rights violations meted on Kenyans during anti-government protests.

Karua while addressing the press in Nairobi, accused the Head of State of violating the constitution by allowing innocent Kenyans to be brutalised during the anti-state demonstrations and disrespecting court orders.

According to the former Azimio principal, there was still no change in the mode of governance under Ruto’s regime despite the recent appointment of new leaders.

In her speech, Karua vowed to continue mobilising Kenyans against President Ruto’s administration until all the matters raised by the anti-government protesters are resolved.

"In the absence of any response by the Ruto regime, we as Kenyans we will unite and push for accountability. We are seeing a period of increased impunity," Martha Karua revealed.

Karua further pledged to report the Head of State to both continental and global human rights bodies including the African Union Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations (UN) Commission on Human Rights.

“Every drop of blood spilt in the quest for justice must be accounted for. In the light of these grave concerns we will submit formal complaints to the AU Commission on Human Rights and the UN Commission on Human Rights and other relevant authorities,” Karua stated.

“We will not hesitate to call out these violations on the continental and the international stage, especially in light of the state having reverted to its default status,” she added.

The NARC Kenya leader also took a swipe at the new university education funding model which Karua termed as a betrayal to Kenyan students.

According to Karua, the new funding model was a hindrance, preventing Kenyan students from accessing their right to education.

“This model if implemented without meaningful public participation, will be unconstitutional abut also discriminatory,” Karua stated.

“We must now reject this new oppressive university funding model placed on the shoulders of our students and their families.”
