Francis Atwoli praises President Ruto for his recent CS appointments

Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli has praised President William Ruto’s latest Cabinet nominations as a significant step toward national unity and political inclusivity.

Atwoli welcomed the nomination of Mutahi Kagwe and former Governors Lee Kinyanjui, and William Kabogo citing them as a demonstration of statesmanship and commitment to national cohesion.

In a press statement released on Friday, Atwoli described the appointments as "a clear demonstration of President Ruto’s commitment to fostering political stability and national cohesion through the formation of a broad-based and inclusive government."

"By including individuals who supported him and even those who did not, the President has portrayed a great show of statesmanship that should be lauded and emulated," the statement noted.

The COTU (K) boss believes that these appointments will enhance the decision-making process by bringing together a variety of perspectives.

"We believe that the current calibre of individuals within the Cabinet will not only promote unity but also enrich decision-making processes through the contestation of ideas and thus ultimately addressing the challenges facing Kenyan workers and in advancing the socio-economic welfare of all Kenyans," Atwoli stated.

The trade union body expressed confidence that the new Cabinet Secretaries will prioritize the interests of workers and the broader Kenyan populace. "We look forward to engaging with the Cabinet in constructive social dialogue to ensure the dignity and welfare of workers are at the forefront of government priorities," COTU’s statement read.

President Ruto on Thursday made fresh Cabinet nominations, bringing several former politicians back into government.

In a statement from Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, President Ruto nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy. Kabogo is set to take over the ICT portfolio from Dr. Margaret Nyambura who has been nominated as Kenya's High Commissioner to Ghana.

Meanwhile, Mutahi Kagwe, who previously served as Health Cabinet Secretary under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.

Kagwe will take over the Agriculture portfolio from Dr. Andrew Karanja, who has been nominated as Kenya's Ambassador to Brazil.

Additionally, former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has been nominated to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry previously held by Salim Mvurya who has been moved to the Sports Ministry which falls vacant following the appointment of Kipchumba Murkomen as Interior CS.
